Thanks everyone for your replies - have booked the seats today and unfortunately or fortunately whichever way you look at it we didn't end up with the choice (seats selling fast!) We leave Manchester at 09.55 and land in Singapore at 08.50 quick change as catch the plane to Perth at 09.35 (the travel agent assures me this will be fine as there will be many people changing onto this flight from ours!) land in Perth at 14.35. Can anyone tell me what weight the bassinettes will hold - Oliver our youngest is a big boy! although we have booked him seat. Once again thanks for all your replies

Ben was able to go in one (14mths) but he is small (2nd centile) max weight on Emirates was 10kg. Even though Ben is very small for his age he only just fitted lengthwise. If your son is big I would guess they won't let him use the bassinet so good you've booked him a seat - plus it gives you space to spread out a bit.

How old? Andrew born 11lb14oz travelled at 7 months and fitted for sleep and balancing although wouldn't have left him there while awake. Have fun.

Just out of curiosity, has anybody gone with Thai Airlines with children? Looking into this at the moment and thinking of stopping off in Bangkok for a weeks holiday. Children 17,10,5. Any other suggestions on how to keep the youngest happy greatly appreciated.

Only on short haul. They were very good and are a good airline. But not sure how they are on long haul.
Am told portable DVD players are great when they pass 3!

Just been to Melbourne on a validation trip with a 7 month old and a 3 1/2 year old. Flew with Emirates. Found the three legs of 7 hours great as it broke the journey. Had a bassinet. The only thing I would say though is that if you're in the bulk head seats in the middle take eye masks as there's a tv screen which is on for the whole flight, this was very annoying and kept us awake.

Also travelled out to Melbourne with a 22 month old two years ago. He was too big for a bassinet but we requested one anyway as with Emirates you could if they're under 2years old, also booked my son a seat and then took a car seat to strap to the seat. This worked really well as my son would have been running around the plane otherwise as he could climb out of the lap belt.

Hi,

Done the flight 3 times now with 4 children aged 8, 7, 4 and 2 (at the time)took heaps of stuff to entertain them and they never looked at anything apart from the in-flight entertainment and colouring books! done both night and day flights and someone has already said no difference with either.....they will sleep when they feel like it! all the kids coped well and we flew Austrain Airlines the first couple of times (avoid like the plague!!) and the last time was with Cathay, used them before , brilliant.

Just relax and go with the flow, it's a long journey and only knocks you out of sync for a few days........worth it when you get here! :D

We did it with our lad who was 18 months and our 6 year old girl, she was a diamond but it took Joel a little getting used to. The main thing was the boredom as he wanted to play in the aisle but he obviously could not. We booked him his own seat and found that a god send. We flew direct so we could get it all out of the way, we flew Singapore and found them to be great.Good luck.
