Question Small business on 457 visa?

My understanding is that with a 457 visa that your spouse can work. Does anyone know if you can startup a small business? Or do you need to have PR for that?

We came out on a 457 Business Visa.
We started a restaurant in Rockingham 2 and a half years ago.
My husband now runs the business and I go out to work.

We applied for Business Skills - Permanent visas and were granted those on the 3rd May.

Good Luck

Thank you. That's exactly the response I wanted to hear.

Is yours an employer sponsored 457 visa, or one of the old 457 Independent Executive visas?

Best regards.

I came on an employer sponsored 457, my wife set up a small business. Absolutely no problems at all.

I think I read the tax laws may have changed now though but that may only have been relevant to my wife as the income she got in was from overseas.

Yes, I think it does ... on an employer sponsored 457 visa you can only work for the sponsoring employer - check the visa grant letter to see what it says.

The spouse or partner of the main applicant can work for whoever they choose though.

Best regards.

Well, that is exactly what I am counting on. I will work at my company and my wife can maybe run a business.
