Something you might want to think about when making your decision.

Don't mean to upset you, but you won't get much for $15-$20k. We started with a budget of $30+, don't get much for that at all, so getting new cause works better with the finance deal and warranties etc. ($53k!).

For a 7-seater? That's reliable? Like what? This isn't sarcastic but we couldn't find a 7 seater that was suitable not even thinking about a budget. Most of the 7 seaters shouldn't be allowed to be classed as 7 seaters with the room and size of the back 2 seats. Even the big Land Cruiser back seats were small, as were Mitsubishi outlanders.

The only ones we found with decent 6th & 7th seats were Captiva, Kluger and Mazda CX9.

Im looking at the same. And so far my list is a Pajero..

Theres also the Ford Territory in 7 seats, but its not very common.

I wouldnt personally go for Kia/Hyundai over 5 years old..

Just seen your previous post. The Pajero's are good, but for $15-20k you'll be looking at one over 10 years old. I know nothing about cars so don't know what I'm looking at in terms of reliability so wanted something up to 5 years old with a warranty, there I found nothing suitable without paying very near new prices.

Obviously the Japanese ones at 10 years old are most reliable (than 10 yr old Korean ones!). But you gotta weigh up repair costs too. I think Mitsi are cheaper to repair than Toyota. Mainly because Toyota break down so little, parts are stocked less. But also the domestic cars, Holden and Ford are more common so are also cheaper to repair.

Id love to buy a 50k car but im not able to (yet). But there are deals out there to be had. It just takes some looking and waiting. But if you cant afford the time to search then you may find you are somewhat limited in choice.

BTW im talking 4x4 here. Im sick of MPV's! The Meriva stays in England! :)

For around 15-16k You can pick up a good 2002-2003 Pajero with 120km if you wait and are patient..

My captiva is a couple of years old, drives beautifully, the kids are really comfy and the boot huge with the seats down and comfy for the kids when in the 2 boot seats.
You may find a lot of trade ins at the moment after the end of year push...

Another left-field option would be a special mport from Japan eg Delicia.

What the what? You're suggesting that Toyota parts are expensive and hard to come by?

Don't have one here, but I had an Odyssey in New Zealand - 2000 model and it was great - pretty fuel efficient (even at NZ prices), comfortable, easy to drive and great boot space when the back seats were down. Didn't have any trouble with it at all. Only suggest I have is try to get the 6 cylinder version rather than the 4 - just has a bit more oomph and better if you're doing longer drives over Oz roads.

No. I suggest Toyota are more costly to repair and as they dont break down as often then alot of places dont always carry all of the parts that you may need.
