Default Slim Dusty's funeral live on TV

This guy must be as big as princess Di to have 2 channels showing his funeral live on TV.

Excuse my ignorance, bu who the hell is he anyway? I presume some sort of country singer. What are the criteria for getting a state funeral here? Certainly the Brits don't hand them out to just anyone, seem to recall Winston Churchill may have been the last non-royal (if you exclude Diana). Funerals don't make good TV either, though possibly better than what it is replacing.

He was so many things to so many people, a true Aussie legend. Im sitting here watching it & shedding a tear, so too will be many other people all over Australia. If there were more people like Slim Dusty the world would be a much better place.

A real Aussie legend - gave the world a lot of good songs. I remember seeing him on TV at the closing ceremony of the Olympics.
I had a dear friend in Hobart who is also being buried today - he would be tickled pink to think he has picked the same day as Slim Dusty! I can hear him laughing his way to the other side now....!!!!! And he's probably singing "Pub with No Beer" as he goes......
