Default Skype Problems - Can anyone help please?

I have set up Skype on my laptop and my mum's laptop ready for when I arrive in Australia in 2 weeks.

The problem is my mum can see me but we cannot see her, all we see is the little box with us in and the box where my mum should be is black.

Does anyone know how to solve this? Is it at my end or my mum's?

Thanks in advance.

Nikky

Not sure if this correct or not but doesn't she need to click on "Start video" at her end. Then her webcam would come on and you can see her.

Hi
Thanks for replying - she does press start video but I still don't receive the image. She can see herself and us but we can't see her.
Would it be something to do with the set up on my machine?
I have no-one else that I can test this with until my mother in law sets hers up when she receives her broadband in a couple of weeks. At least then we can find out whose set up is at fault.
I was just hoping that someone who is good with this kind of stuff may be able to advise in the meantime.
Regards
Nikky

Hey Nikky

When you are on a call beside her name you need to go to menu then scroll down to view. IT will give you a few options ie open window in box , view full screen etc. Click on which ever one you want and that should solve your problem.

Let me know if it works.

Paddy

Ps if you want to try a call with me let me know and i will pm you my details.

Hi
We are both on broadband and both on vista. Did you manage to resolve it and if so how?
Thanks

We had to make sure skype was using our webcam. To do this, open skype, click on tools, then options, then video settings. Select your webcam from the drop down list. You can also make sure you are set up to receive video here. Hope this helps, I am no expert so sorry if you've tried this

yes, everyone on vista had to buy new webcams...... are you sure both your cams are vista compatible? (sorry, silly question but as we found it's often something simple that's the problem)...

the issue might well be compatibility with vista as my girlfriend faced the same problem however the manufacturer was kind enough to send a set of vista compatible drivers on a cd by courier.
