Default Skin Clinic - what should I expect?

Been here for nearly a year (well, in May) so I think its about time I booked the family in for a skin checkup... found a Medicare bulk billing one in Noosa (or been told of it) so was going to give them a call and hopfully get me, OH and the kids checked out..

So.. what to expect? I have visions of a doctor using a huge magnifying glass (Sherlock Holmes Style) inspecting all the skin whilst I stand there in me birthday suit!!!

What happens in these places (naughty responses need not apply) and should I be going once a year or is that under/overkill? (I am currently living on The Sunshine Coast, Queensland)..

Well you strip off, then the doctor scans you with his hand scanning magnifying machine, taking pictures of your moles, etc.

These pictures are stored until your next visit, and then compared against the current pictures.

If any have changed shape, got bigger etc, they then investigate.

If the doctor sees anything unusual during the 1st visit, they may get you back in a week or two, for further checks.

Well, that's my experience

Hi Em, its very straighforward, nothing too daunting. You will undress to your undies and the doctor will ask if there are any suspicious moles etc that you have noticed. She will then use a magnifying glass and look all over your body from top to bottom, they are very thorough but its not uncomfortable. You will be reminded about the dangers of the sun and about sunscreen etc and thats it really. I paid $50 and got about half back i think... well worth it for peace of mind. They recommend you go each year unless you have something you are worried about, then you should be seen straight away.

Actually I have some experience in this. As the others have said they examine you from top to toe looking for suspicious moles / legions. Undercrackers should be far enough. I had mine done in the UK and was mauled and prodded by what seemed like half a dozen female skin specialist / nurses simultaneously.

I returned the next week, only to be removed from the premises.

Really simple stuff. Only been here since December, but I'm fair skinned so wanted to be safe. Just strip down to your undies and they quickly check u over, take quick photos with small supermarket type scanner of any suspect moles. It only takes a couple of mins. They gave me the all clear straight away, glad I didn't have to wait for the results.
