There is good news:-
from Alan's last link
5000 new migrant visas allocated
The number of migrants coming to Australia will also increase because 5,000 additional places will be allocated to the new two stage Skilled independent visa.
This special visa was announced in January and is available to those people who can't meet the new passmark but do meet the 2002 standard, provided they commit to living and working in regional Australia.
I assume the 2002 standard is the original 115 points ?
And what is the definition of "Regional Australia" ?

If you've paid the Bond I would have thought you are already well on the way to visa grant as your application will have been assessed under the existing points pass mark ... so far as I know the points pass mark increase hasn't yet become law.
Best regards.

"At this time there is no indication whether those whose applications have been lodged already will be assessed under the present 115 points pass mark, or the new pass mark - if past precedent can be relied upon we would expect applications that have been lodged already to be assessed against the 115 points pass mark."

Maybe, but probably not ... read the news story again.
Until we see the legislation we can't be certain.

- The 2002 standard is 115 points.
- There is nothing yet published that defines "regional" in the context of the new skilled visa, so far as I am aware.
Best regards.

Hi Alan
I note that the minister also states that there will be more places for doctors. I have a friend who is a paediatrician who is interested in migrating. Do you deal with Doctors application or is that a specialised field?
Thanks
Debs

Yep, we're OK handling visa applications for doctors Debs, though we don't yet know what the new provisions will mean as to permanent residency visa strategy for doctors wanting to move to Australia ...
Best regards.

i may be wrong, but isn't the first process to be assessed against the points? so if you've been asked for police/medicals/bonds then you've already cleared the points hurdle?
i would be amazed if after asking for any of that they would apply the points test again... they are slow enough with the processing as it is!!

I think that in the next few weeks we might also see some "tweaking" of the points in the light of this week's report into skilled migration - such as more points for spouse skills or for work experience in Australia. Watch this space ...
Also, don't forget the State Nomination option if you are considering a move to VIC, SA, or TAS.
Best regards.

It all stinks of election tinkering. This may well count out someone I know who is doing the RPL.
Alan do you know if DIMIA are hitting current quota targets.?
