Skilled Independent Regional Any Ideas?

Skilled Independent Regional Any Ideas?
Any one heard anything new lately about the SIR visa which is supposed to commence 1 Jul 04?
I am having my skills assessment done now with IEAust. It should come back positive and we are hoping to go East - Brisbane way.
I am wondering what the criteria will be for regional within the context of this new visa, and if any of the migration specialists who browse this forum have heard anything?? Apparently there is a conference soon in Oz at which Ms Vanstone's dept might give up some more clues.
Nothing like giving lots of notice eh?
The information drought is a little unsettling

So far South Australia is the only state playing ball. I hope Amanda Vanstone learns how to be competent from this but so far she has been inept.

And JJL is right (in as much as anybody knows anyway ), the Brisbane metropolitan area is not regional but you don't have to go too far out (probably only about 25km) to get into a 'regional' area.

I think you will find its a tad more than 25km
From the data we have received from Vanstones press office, Toowoomba is categorised as regional which is a ikkle more than 25 k

At present, places like Strathpine (postcode 4500) are regional and only 22km from Brisbane. OK, there are not many places that close but there are lots of places to the north within 45km that are regional. It depends on how 'regional' is massaged for this visa category, as the definition is different for different categories already.

Do they expect you to work in the regional area too or are you allowed to live in a regional area and commute to the Metro area?

From my experience, and from what ive listened to and read, they are looking for Migrants to live in regional areas, take money and experience and work live and spend within these areas for min 2 yrs i believe.
Hence id tend to imagine theyd limit the closeness of the areas under the regional scope

My understanding at the moment is that you will be expected to work in a regional area as well - so commuting into a non-designated city centre may well be a no-no.
But - we have to see the Regulations for real before any definitive comments can be made.
