Skill`s Assesment.

Hi folk`s!
Has anybody found it hard chasing up past employers?Especially those of you who have been self-employed for large periods.
I would like to know too what length do the Assesment bodies(in my case the TRA)look into your employment pass, ie. do they check it with national insurance(contributions) history/or tax office.
Basically, i want to know is it worth taking a risk with extending/bending the truth a bit here & a bit there( i have a past employer able to fill in a few gaps!).It`s just that being in the construction industry(i`m an electrician by the way!) many past employers/agencies have folded or merged etc..
Will be much obliged to hear from anyone who could give me advice..(maybe some free electrical work thrown in as well!!!)
Thanks...

Re: Skill`s Assesment.

Hi Colin,

I had a somewhat similar dilemma as one of the companies I worked for had gone out of
business in the time since I had left it.

If you know the name of the company then you should be able to search the companies
house site, and obtain details of accounts and liquidation if it took place. I
submitted a copy of the web page from companies house to TRA and was successful in my
assessment.

A cautionary note I would not be tempted to bend the truth as you put it, but rather
if you are unable to supply letters just include a statutory declaration explaining
why you cannot supply letters from those employers together with copies of their
liquidation if it took place.
