Single Thirty-Somethings
Are there any single thirty-somethings planning to migrate to the Brisbane area in the near future? Also, is there anyone out there who has already done it and can share their experiences? I'm in a position where I should be able to buy my own property but am really daunted by the prospect of getting a job, making friends, and generally being able to do it all on my own after having been in a relationship for years .

I am in the same position. I am in my mid thirties and am also wondering what the hell I'm doing!! Luckily for me I will have some family out there but I would have been alot happier if I were going with a partner to share the experience with.
The way I am looking at it, if you don't like it then you can come back. However, I am going to give it a good go, got nothing to lose at the moment!!
Not got my visa yet but fingers crossed should get one by the summer and then I see no reason not to go asap. Also planning on going to Brisbane.

Hey
Sounds like there are a few of us thirty something singletons on here!! lol
I am pretty much in the same boat, although am not in the fortunate position of be able to buy when I get out there; i kinda figure the stability of that will help you settle in.
I went out there on a one year working holiday when i was 30 and always intended to go back after I had done my post grad...ended up changing this as the partner I had did not want to go...biggest regret of my life!!!!
Going through the visa process now, and although i'm scared, I think it will be the best thing I ever did.
Socialising is so much easier in OZ and people are generally much more easy going so i'm sure you will settle in just fine.

I'm in a similar position....have the visa and visited several times. I find the idea of re-locating on my own a bit daunting (exciting too!), moving out of your comfort zone and living in another culture. I know I can get a job fairly easily....I'm a printer and looking to settle in Melbourne where the industry is thriving so this isn't a major issue. Making new friends and getting on day to day is my main concern.
I'd love to hear from any single people moving to Melbourne later this year.

Good luck with the move, and maybe bump into you on britvics.
Paul.
(p.s. I'm not a single thirty something moving to OZ, but the idea of it sounds great)

I feel the same apprehensions about making a move like this,
My son and daughter, who have also been granted visas, might stay here for a a bit longer, so it looks like I will be heading to Oz on my own!
This website is great for making contacts .... meeting people before you go ..and then it doesn't seem so scarey!

I came out here last year at 37, knew one person in Brisbane, but I've got the best social life ever. I've a few interests that helped in opening up social connections, but generally I found people, including my colleagues to be really friendly.

Re: Single Thirty-Somethings
You can add me to the list. I'm heading to Brisbane, arrive the beginning of September after a stopover in Hong Kong.
I'm going with 2 kids and don't have any family over there.
I do have a friend though . Someone I've met through here. I know a few people, also from here, who I am sure will become friends once I arrive. I think this forums a great starting point to meeting people. There seems to be a good expat community over there so I'm sure we'll all be fine

Re: Single Thirty-Somethings
single 26 year old made the leap to brissie last sep. 6 months in and loving it and just looking to venture into the housing market. Its going to be a struggle but I think owning a home will make me feel more settled. Its scary when you rent when you don't know anyone else. The tightness of the rental market makes me fear being left homeless as only on a one month rolling contract with my landlord at present

Hows everyone getting on? Has anybody moved yet?
Just wondered how people are settling in. It's getting closer for me and I'm starting to worry.
