Planning to move to Sydney to start a new life with my 2 kids who are 10 and 12. Holding a PR Visa. Is looking for job easy? I teach piano for living. I dont mind to work other jobs as long we could live happily together. Any advice? Thanks alot.

You would need permission from the children's father. Sydney is a VERYSTORMY expensive place to live

For piano teachers????
Might be OK salaries for the high flying corporate types but I doubt a piano teacher is going to take in even $100k pa. Maybe there is another skill set which will make more.

In answer to the OP - can you go somewhere else cheaper??? Looking for jobs is very easy, whether you can get one or not is a whole other question.

I am pretty sure a piano teacher at a top private school is going to make $100k. And it's Sydney, plenty of top private schools. You can try Brisbane of course but there aren't many top private schools charging students the same type of massive fees so your choices, opportunities and chances of decent money are muted.

If you have a 190 visa you have been sponsored by a specific state, and you should live and work in that state for 2 years.

Perth isn't in NSW and you will have agreed to reside in NSW for at least 2 years (as you were heading for Sydney, I assume you were sponsored by NSW) - you can move on after that. You can check out any of the NSW towns and cities - they'll be cheaper accommodation for sure, places like Newcastle, Armidale, Tamworth, Albury, Woolongong, Dubbo, Wagga or even Queanbeyan (close to Canberra with all its aspirational parents but cheaper living) Check out Seek.com and see if there are positions advertised for piano teachers. It's a big state, there are plenty of places to choose from.

Just thinking out loud here, but it might be worth checking what level of piano teaching the OP has previously delivered (e.g. kids vs concert-level pianists vs something in between), before deciding whether she can or can't afford to live in Sydney???

How old are the kids? Schools start at an older age that you're used to in the UK and you'll need to find childcare which can be horrendously expensive in some areas, if you can even get a place.

On the employment front, depending on the area, there are a lot of ambitious parents out there who want their kids to be grade 8 by age 10 (think Eastern Suburbs Sydney or the Northern Beaches) who are on the lookout for private tutors.
