Hi

We are also travelling via Singapore with two kids just gone 4 and 2. We decided to stay on Bintan Island at the Bintan Lagoon. As it is beachy not city central and we can have an extra bed for one kid and the other supposedly sleep in our bed but we will make a bed out of cushions etc. Looks lovely, check it out... www.bintanlagoon.com

They are very helpful and we booked online through their website which worked out a lot cheaper than through the Singapore Airlines website. We also booked our flights direct online, and even the ferry over to bintan. Off on 19th September!!

Good luck!

Kerry

Cool Re: Singapore Hotels - with small children

Hi

We will be staying in Phoenix Hotel with 3 children (9, 7 & 2) when we go out to hopefully validate our visas in October. ($188HKD for one night for family room)
Hotel centrally located, about all we know!

Good luck with your trip.

Best wishes

Forgot to say, we will be in Singapore from the 19th - 22nd September too... we are going to Dubai first and then land in Brisbane on 23 September.
Where are you settling in Oz.

When we stayed in Singapore with Jonah (he was 3 mths) we stayed at the Furama Hotel. We found the staff to be lovely & the kiddy facilties were excellent.

This time, we have been looking at www.hotelclub.net as they have lots of useful info for the hotels on there & really reasonable prices - much cheaper that on the larger websites.

Hi Kerry

Do you realise that this is in Indonesia not Singapore?

Make sure you are carrying some US$ so you can get your visas sorted.

Are you being provided with transport from the airport to the ferry terminal? Trip across takes aroun 45 mins.

Here's some info about visa anyway, just in case you didn't realise:

Visa-On-Arrival Facility
Citizens from the following 21 countries not granted visa-free facility may apply for Visa-On-Arrival (VOA) facility at special counters of the Immigration Office at Bandar Bentan Telani Ferry Terminal.

1. ARGENTINA
12. NEW ZEALAND
2. AUSTRALIA 13. NORWAY
3. BRAZIL 14. POLAND
4. CANADA 15. SOUTH AFRICA
5. DENMARK 16. SOUTH KOREA
6. FINLAND 17. SWITZERLAND
7. FRANCE 18. TAIWAN
8. GERMANY 19. UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
9. HUNGARY 20. UNITED KINGDOM
10. ITALY 21. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
11. JAPAN

The Visa-on-Arrival charges are as follows:
• US$10 per person for a maximum period of 3 days/ 2 nights
• US$25 per person for a maximum period of 30 days
• Overstay charges: US$20 per day

Visitors are required to have at hand the following documents for VOA application:
• Passport with minimum 6 months' validity
• Arrival / departure card
• Return or onwards journey ticket

Visitors are advised to bring with them the exact amount in US Dollars for payment of VOA fees prior to departure for Bintan, so as to minimize inconvenience and ensure a smooth VOA application process.

Procedure:
• Before arriving at the ferry, fill in the arrival/departure card. This card serves as the VOA application form.
• Upon arrival at the ferry terminal, go the special counters and pay the visa fee. You will receive a bar-coded receipt.
• Proceed to the Visa-on-Arrival counter to have the arrival/departure card, your passport and payment receipt scanned and recorded in the immigration computer. A sticker visa will be issued to you instantly.
• Proceed to the immigration checkpoint for clearance.

The Visa-on-Arrival is not extendable and cannot be used for employment purposes.

Hi Rudi

Yeah, I did realise, I am only a fake blonde!

I have it all sorted, have booked ferries etc already, and the hotel are sending a car to collect us from the terminal and will give us champange on arrival too. Not a problem. Looks much more lovely being on a beautiful island than in a stinky old city, especially with kids!

Thanks for the info regarding how to get the visa, like going to the visa on arrival counter, I guessed I might figure it out when I got there, but a few words of wisdom are always gratefully appreciated!

Hi Julie

Fab! We dont land in Singapore until the 20th and go straight off to Bintan island until the 23rd we go back to Singapore airport for the flight to Brisbane which lands on the 24th am. You will just beat us!!

We are going south from Brisbane to Byron Bay. Hubby has relies and friends there (tho as it is really pricey we will probably end up a wee bit out of town, like sunrise beach or the channon).

Where are you going?

Hi Kerry

Phew!! Glad you knew - I was really worried from the way your original post was worded that you thought you would be in Singapore!!!

Have a fab time and a safe journey.
