hi,

We stayed at the Oriental Hotel. It was absolutely out of this wrold and very conveniently sited for most things.

Here's the link

http://www.singapore-hotels-travel.net/oriental.htm

When we were there last April we did it as a Singapore stop over for 2 nights and it was £120 for 2 adults and 1 child. As it was SARS at the time we were asked it we wanted to upgrade to a panoramic view suite......oh my God what a room with views over the bay and the city. I have NEVER stayed in such a fantastic hotel. The upgrade was another £40 total and well worth it. The hotel had several restaurants and although pricy - we ate there on the first night (spent the afternoon at the pool as got there at 3pm) the food was excellent. Better still was the many many restaurants across the road near the Esplanade. On our second night we ate at a Japanese style outdoor restaurant where you cooked your own food in a BBQ/Wok/Skillet in the middle of your table....wonderful seafood !!

Anyway, you probably guessed that we had a great time and would thoroughly reccommend it. Several of our relatives have also stayed there since and had an equally good time.

I would recommend a day on Sentosa island as well, make sure you see the light show at dusk as it rivals Epcot for enjoyment and effects :lecture:

Enjoy and good luck...

Just stayed in Raffles the plaza. Truly amazing. We booked on line with expedia and cost £70 a night for a double room that was upgraded to delux. Highly recommended.

depends on your budget.
I lived there 1996 until 2002 so can give you a few ideas- do ask specifically of any of the major ones.
all in Orchard road , Tanglin-traders hotel, the ones down at Marine parade, raffles plaza, westin stanford-now called swissotel all good...shangri-la to die for....
I'm happy to help, I was last there in November on a visit just ask:-)

We also spent a week at Raffles as my birthday treat. It was fantastic. Make sure you pack trousers as men aren't allowed in in shorts!

We stayed at the Orchard, just off Orchard Road (funnily enough). Great hotel and fantastic location.

Have stayed in the Orchard, Traders and Goodwood Park
Goodwood Park definately the best - it's a beautiful colonial style hotel just off Orchard Rod so is very central for the shopping district. It's low-rise with beautiful grounds - not high-rise hotel. Should have been about $300 but got it for about 120 with www.asia-hotels.com (used them many times). Also use www.wotif.com a lot too.

all three are good locations:)

we stayed in orchard on arrival,
I worked next to Traders and hubbys company used it for business guests. and Goodwood is lovely, you were lucky to stay there Hiddenpaw.:)
only thing I'd say is that Traders and Gw are on busy roads - ie 4/5 lane dual carriage ways. so if your room is near the road use ear plugs!

For those of you going down via any Asian stopover, Planetholiday.com do very good hotel deals.

I have used them many times for Singapore and Bangkok. They send email confirmation immediately and we've never had any trouble with the bookings such as extras added on.

The Swissotel in SIN is nice (Ex Westin) though their poolside breakfast isn't what it was! It's very high rise, so quiet: unlike some of the rooms at the Goodwood.

We stayed at the New Otani near Clark Quay.

It was lovely and comfortable with a shopping center underground. Also close to hooters and the other hundreds of restaurants and bars.
