singapore accomodation does anyone know
 

Hi,

we are trying to plan our trip to Australia and want to stop in singapore with the twins for a week so as to break up the journey however we are not sure of what type of accomodation to choose there. I have looked at a few websites but don't know what type of room to look for when booking for two adults and two children - does anyone have any advice

We always stay at the Holiday Inn Parkview. You can book a room in advance over the internet and it's only about $110 a night. It's got a nice rooftop pool too.

We used Trailfinders and booked the Shangri La Rasa Sentosa Hotel on the island of Sentosa. Our little boy is 2 so it was a great family friendly place for us to stay - still with easy access to the city by the free hotel shuttle bus. Immaculate hotel with great pools and lovely rooms. We would recommend it - quieter than staying on Orchard Rd in the thick of it.

If you fly with Singapore you get a whole host of hotels dirt cheap and other goodies thrown in as well.

I booked with a Singy hotel indepenendantly then PHIZA gave me this and saved me well over £200.

If flying with SIA book up for the stopover scheme. You get subsidised hotel, free transfers and a free hop on/off tour bus plus lots of discount vouchers.

This is also our plan, travelled loads of times using Trailfinders, and they recommend Sentosa as do many others for Kids etc

If you want to save money stay in the Joo Chiat (iirc) area. It`s near the red light district but is very safe and close to the train line. You really get a glimpse of real Singapore life there.

But from the other posts (as you have 2 kids), I`d stay on Sentosa if you have the budget..... beautiful man-made island. Have fun on the cable-car going to/from the mainland :)

Places to go:
The Botanical Gardens
Bird Park
Reptile Park (next to the bird park..... but seeing the huge turtles trying to escape their pen upset me).
There`s a great Buddhist Temple.... not sure where it is, as the taxi driver recommended it and took us there.
We found the shopping districts (like Orchard Rd) just way too much to handle, so avoided them after that.
Night Safari (best bit were the huge Flying Foxes)
and of course Sentosa.

Try the shaved ice/fruit/whatever things they make in the food courts..... or maybe not. They look great but ours were disgusting. Must be an acquired taste.

Enjoy though wherever you go and whatever you do.

I stayed there once, lots of prossies and trannies some both! Very different to the rest of Singapore.
