Default Sick and tired of uk travel agents

Hi all, long time since I posted.
So Im here in blighty since feb 25 for what was going to be around 6 months to work and get some cash together to return to the misses and young fella. decided instead to get the family here for a few months so I go shopping for a one way ticket syd-manchester. Seems uk travel agents just cant get around the idea that someone here in blighty wants to buy someone in oz a ticket and the best they could do for me was a return ticket from manchester -syd and back, saying " she can use the syd-man portion for her one way flight, thats £756 please"
What a bunch of crap !! Hell, even flight centre in oz can beat that by about $900AUD but now I want to ask the members here if they reckon I can take my printout of the oz flight centre quote to the uk flight centre and get them to sell me a one way ticket at the same price ??? Just seems too much trouble for the brit travel centres, what ever happened to going out of ones way to ensure a satisfied customer ??

I do not understand why they cannot do it.

I bought tickets to bring several members from UK to Australia via the Flight Ctre here. All i had to do was pay for it, wait for tickets to arrive at the Australian agents and hten courier them to UK.

I can't believe how incompetent this travel agent is whom has told you to use the return portion of a flight ticket only. It's one thing flying on the outbound journey then throwing the return portion away.....but if you don't actually turn up at the aiport and use the outgoing ticket the airlines scrap the whole itinerary and there would be no 'return' section of the journey! This was because (especially in the USA) where it's often cheaper to buy a return ticket than a one way ticket for the same destination, people wouldn't turn up for their flight sector. The airlines got wise to this and so delete the whole booking if you don't turn up for the first part of it.

I live in the States but just bought a ticket on Travelocity.com (not Travelocity.co.uk) for my mum to fly from Birmingham UK to New York (as I'm in the States it's more convenient to pay in US$ but the price was actually the same regardless of whether I'd bought the ticket in the UK or not - it's the origin and dates of the journeys which dictate the price. All you need to do is type in the names of the people on the air tickets. My mum's ticket was an e-ticket anyway so all I did was sent her confirmation by e-mail to my sister's house where she printed it off for her.

Why are you not buying an air ticket valid for six months or for one year? It sounds like you're returning to Sydney at some point so an open-dated return will almost certainly work out cheaper than buying a one way ticket.

Here are some other ideas to check out flights and prices:

http://www.travelocity.co.uk

http://www.trailfinders.com

http://www.trailfinders.com.au

http://www.statravel.co.uk (yes they will book non-students!)

http://www.leestravel.co.uk (flight consolidator specialising in Asian airlines to/from the Far East and Australasia. YOu would need to phone or send an e-mail if you want a one-way ticket from Oz.

Hope this helps.

I used to save lotsa money for my company by making everybody buy two cheap return tickets and only use half of each which used to work out a big cost saving rather than using one standard return.

First ticket: no problem, you are using the outward section, just don't turn up for the return section.

Return: you need to confirm the flight. If anybody asks why you didn't turn up for the outward flight, just say you missed it.

apparently (as told by brit high commission in oz) my partner has to have a return ticket because uk requires her to have one or they will refuse her entry into the uk.
I had this prob at heathrow on my way to syd couple of years ago, but it was from a cathy pacific employee who was absolutely certain I had to have a return ticket to oz but he was corrected by his supervisor.
I wonder if my partner had a one way to uk but had second ticket for another destination would that be sufficient evidence that she has a ticket out of the uk ?
Any ideas ?
