Should we move?

Hi everyone!
Back in 1985 my company sent me from the UK to Australia for two years to set up a sales and distribution operation for an American owned international company. It was probably the best two years of my working career. I was based in Melbourne and before returning to the UK I married my Australian girlfriend. We have lived in the UK since and have brought up two children, now aged 11 and 13.
My American company have offered me early retirement (I'm 55 years young!) which is a euphemism for not agreeing with corporate policy - one size (American) will fit all!
One option we are looking at will be to migrate to Qld. My wife is Australian by birth and our two girls have received Australian citizenship by descent. It only remains for me to obtain a visa under the "Sponsorship for a partner to migrate to Australia" forms 40SP and 47SP.
My wife has family and friends living in the northern suberbs of Brisbane and it is an area we would like to live.
The equity from the sale of our UK home will be approx A$500k+ and the pension I have been offered will be approx A$57k+ pa. which we could top up by purchasing an investment property and to hedge against exchange rate fluctuations.
We are both fit and capable of working either full or part-time to supplement my pension.
My questions are these:
1. Are there any published school performance tables that we can view.
2. How long will the process of obtaining visa for myself take?
3. Will our income allow us to enjoy a reasonable standard of living? I know this is an open question and largely dependent on lifestyle, but any comments please.....

I've enjoyed reading many of the postings on this site and have learnt a great deal, especially the information relating to removal experiences and costs.
Many thanks...
