Latham push for women in combat
By John Kerin
January 21, 2004
WOMEN could take on frontline combat roles in Australia's defence force under a Latham Labor government.
Women are banned from taking part in direct combat in six main areas including infantry, armoured and artillery units and navy mine clearance diving.
The ALP will debate at its national conference next week whether to review the policy. Labor's defence spokesman, senator Chris Evans, said yesterday the commitment to review the restrictions had been long-standing ALP policy.
"We will be visiting this issue as part of an effort to address discrimination in all its forms," Senator Evans said.
"If the ADF has sound reasoning as to why women shouldn't serve in combat positions, then we would take that on board, but we are serious about addressing all forms of discrimination and prejudice," Senator Evans told The Australian yesterday.

They were discussing this on the radio this morning and had a phone in. One woman called Susan rang in and would not join the army because of the lack of front line action. She sounded like a mean killing machine and god help any enemy confronting her.

If they pass the same medicals & tests as the guys then yes they should (if they are enough)

If you could co ordinate all the women at the front line to having their 'monthlies' simulataneously any enemy wouldn't stand a chance in hell! :scared:

if women want to sign up to regiments that essentialy operate on the front line then shouldnt that be there choice. the only problem i can see is that certain male soldiers wont be too happy about women fighting alongside them.

Couldn't do it myself, but I have female mates in the army and the love it. Wouldn't want to be the enemy up against any of them:scared: :scared:
