Default Should I have ACS assesment before STNI application

Hi,
I'm a techy guy age 42 with 12yrs exp in IT Support roles for IBM......I would like to work/live in Australia and I have worked out that STNI is probably best route for me, but I am confused about whether I need to have the ACS assesment before I apply or not? I have no formal qualifications only in-house training/recognition. Can anyone help me resolve this query?

I am moving over to Melbourne in 4 weeks on an STNI visa. It is a while since I applied but looking back on my stuff, the order I did things was:
1 - Applied for state sponsorship to Vitoria government
2 - Applied for my ACS
3 - Applied for my STNI
Hope this helps!

It depends on which state you want. I'm going to WA and they insist on a positive skills assessment before applying for state nomination.

Have you checked if any states are offering STNI for IT Support roles? I think SA require a positive skills assessment, don't think Vic curently do, not sure about WA.
