Depending on where you come to there are usually plenty of english shops selling those things we sneak in and buy now and again, even if we pretend we can live without them....

You can even buy 'Aunt Betty's' frozen Yorkshire puddings - ( if you haven't got the knack of making your own ). Aussies have no idea what they are but always love them when served up, whether home made or bought.

But it is difficult to do without a car, unless you do a couple of changes from one bus route to another, or a couple of bus rides plus a train. Not necessarily a good idea when you are unfamiliar with a city and have shift work.

Yes it can prove tricky without a vehicle. However, purchasing a vehicle is high on the list for most people and most immigrants I know rent a vehicle on arrival. It is virtually impossible to do all that needs doing as a new arrival, driving licences, medicare, banks etc without a vehicle. We had a car (and UBD) within 10 days of landing.

As for Vimto I think they sell it in Coles here & definitely in the British shop in Joondalup.
We had some UK Cadburys sent over last week. It had completely melted & run to one end of the packet so I flattened it out again & put it in the fridge. But even after melting & being reset it tasted so much nicer that the Cadburys here. Hubby even tried a blind taste test on me but the difference was SO obvious & for a rare occasion he actually agreed with me on it

Australian Cadbury did try the UK recipe a while back, but had to change back again due to overwhelming complaints.

Re: shopping diffrences
avi has said previously that they will be arriving here with a small amount of funds, so that is why I have suggested suburbs close to where she will be working. The rent in these suburbs is more expensive, but there is not a huge difference compared to further out, plus there are buses & trains and easy walking/cycling to reach the services she will need, such as Medicare/Family Assistance, several supermarkets and 2 fruit/veg markets, and good primary and high schools.

But how many tins of vimto will she manage on a bike????
Its not easy doing the commute to charlies unless you have a car...
PP will tell you, she was going up for weeks at one stage...
If youre working unsocial shifts it can become nigh on impossible..
