SHOCK.....Med delays
SHOCK.....Med delays
Hi all
I have started to get my forms and bits ready for meds and police checks.....I know I haven't been asked but at least I am doing something. Can't stand just waiting ......
Now...I live in Hampshire so have just called Winchester re booking meds, next appt is middle of June!!!! Its because there are 4 of us needing them. I was hoping to have my visa by then!!!ok maybe not then but at least by the end of June......remember I am a nurse don't shout
So has anyone any advice re anywhere where meds and xrays can be done sooner if I have to travel I will?
Pls advise else I will have to book up for mid june and I will be miserable.
Thanks
Irene

Hi
We had ours done at Horley near Gatwick. They gave us an appointment for a date the following week when i rang. The plus points are everything is done there you have the blood, urine and meds done on site then you go to the Bupa hospital for the X-rays which is just down the road. I suppose it depends how far you want to travel i am sure someone will have used somewhere nearer to you. There were also four of us.
Good luck

Irene,
Hampshire is under a lot of pressure at the moment as the Doctor in Bournemouth has recently had a stroke and has cancelled all medicals. I know this because he conveniently had his stroke the day before our medicals were booked. Grrr... Nearly gave me a stroke with the stress of it all.
Anyway, we managed to get in to the Southampton panel doctor and he was really nice (Aussie). His name is on the panel list - I think its Goodall. The reason we didn't go with him in the first place is that the whole thing ended up costing about £50 per person more in Southampton.
We passed the meds and they are on their way to Adelaide so I can recommend him - he seemed more interested in talking about all things Australian than doing the medical!
Best of luck

Thanks for yr replies. I didnt realise that the meds were a variable charge. Are they not fixed? How much did you pay at Southampton and at Gatwick. We will probably look at those two locations.
Flying dutchman how long did it take for you to get an appt at southampton? Glad to hear that your meds have got sent off.
Out of interest did you both wait until meds and police checks were requested or did you go ahead and send them on. Im still undecided what I should do.

I have just booked meds for me and my partner today for Friday 30th April (Chest x-rays) and Sat 1st May (Meds). They both had earlier appointments.
The London Imaging Centre for the chest x-rays. The number is
02074678800 and cost £35 each,
and for the meds at
Travel Screening Services on 0207 307 8756. The cost is £120 each and a further £60 to courier both the forms.
They both offer evening and weekend appointments although the cost at the imaging centre is £10 more for a weekend appointment.
Both are listed on the approved doctors panel list on the DIMIA web site.
I was told that they are very close to each other and behind John Lewis on Oxford Street so you could always get some shopping in as well.
Good Luck

Hi there
Just had medicals redone today for family of 5 at gatwick and then xrays straight after at the bupa gatwick park next door.Very thorough compared to last time but very nice.We booked them about 2 weeks ago.
stopped at gatwick airport for a couple of hours to plane watch with the children,so made a whole day out(very sad we are!!)
try these for an appointment.
Last time we used a gp in dover and had xrays there and that was quite cheap and all was ok so try them too,the roads aren't tobad for these places.
good luck

Med prices aren't fixed, but generally seem to vary from about £140-£170 for your basic, med + HIV test + Xray.

Hello everyone
Thanks everso much for all your replies am starting to feel more positive now......
Hi Lara
Thanks for yr response. Out of interest why did yr medicals have to be redone?
Also can I ask how much you paid for meds. Did you take the children out of school to attend appts?

Hi
Maidenhead (01628 760 911) Mon/Tues/Thurs £145pp (adult, child not known) Xray & meds at same place
Does this price £145 include xrays or is this extra?
Maidenhead isnt too far away from us so either here or Horley gatwick looking good so far.
Thanks for yr reply

it incl X ray.
Add a fee of £6.50 for them to post all the meds/xrays to DIMIA
We were going to go there next month but have delayed due to pregnancy

I am also a RGN/RM and last year we had a sponsored visa approved and issued for which we had medicals/xrays/police checks done, they aren't a year old until june.
However through problems with a house sale we did not feel able to make the start date for my employer(Greeenslopes in Brisbane) therefore we decided to go for Permanent visas this time.
We hoped that by having just the extra HIV/Hep b tests done that Dimmia would accept all the othetr medicals.
But Dimmia now have asked us to have it all done again so they are valid for a whole year, can't beleive how petty this seems.
However you have to do what is asked so we hope that this will be the last bit prior to the issue of a visa,as they have requested them quite quickly.Have had to get new police checks too,so am waitng for them to come back.We have a buyer for the house who wants an exchange date soon but we have to have the visa first.
My boys are still on easter hols, they go back next, but last time I took them out of school and said to the school that it was for insurance medicals.Today cost £150 adult medical with xray £35 per child,I think that would include blood tests but ours have been done already. My eldest son is 11 so had to have an xray and was charged as an adult, not fair really but you have to do it.
All done now and no probs however I would advise you to take copies of any kids records with you my son had a squint op at 5 and they wanted his notes copied otherwise they would want a specialist report which costs more money and time.
