Default Shipping things less than 12 months old

For those who have shipped.

If you shipped new stuff over, did you include a copy of the invoice of said article Just bought a microwave oven that was on special, after pricing up Aus identical models. It is obviously brand new (boxed). It is a sort of leaving present. Hubby is going back as Aussie citizen. Will we get charged tax by the Aus customs? Or will they take no notice because there is just the one and obviously for personal use?

We shipped a pc and tumble dryer that were both almost brand new and declared them on the customs form.

They let both through with no questions asked.

But can we get anything to cook in them ? No.

Haven't done it yet but a while back someone replied to a post saying that customs are looking for items that people are looking to sell on. They mentioned that they would realise what's personal and whats sellable ie twenty microwaves for personal use is a bit excessive! Hey but you never know with customs!

Cheers

MP,

They don't necessarily need the invoice.

I think if there is none they will apply GST to a perceived market value of the item in Australia.

(That is if they want to tax you)

We brought over two pc monitors less than a year old, a brand new scanner/copier, and dishwasher that was about three months old. We declared all of them and did not include the invoices. All went through customs okay with no extra charge.

I can honestly say that in all the time I've been on the site I've not seen anyone charged GST on importing their personal goods - and I'm sure if anyone had been charged they would have posted about it.

The onus is then on you to prove other wise . If you tell them you bought that "13 months ago"and the data base shows it came out the factory 6mths ago then you will have to explain .......................... mm
