Shipping things - do you remove batteries?

When you pack your stuff for shipping would you remove all the batteries first? We have loads of toys etc we will be shipping soon and dont fancy having to remove all the batteries first but I am concerned that the heat the containers are subjected to would make the batteries leak etc.

Did any body leave their batteries in and did they survive the epic journey?

:)

Don't remember going to the faff of taking them out and there was certainly no problem with anything when we got here. Actually just remembered, I changed the battery on the pepper mill the other day - hadn't taken it apart since long before we moved - 3+ years ago :D

Our stuff also arrived just before Christmas, the toys with the cheap batteries didn't work for a few days but the Duracell toys were still working.
