Shipping some stuff back home
I need to ship some stuff back to the UK. Mainly my laptop but wouldn't mind bundling in some clothes and other stuff as well.
Aus Post will do it for around $100 by sea mail, which seems fine to me. But they're unable to answer this question....
Will I have to pay import duties on all my stuff once it gets back home? I know that anything above 30 pounds is taxed even if it is marked as gift. And there is no option on the customs declaration form to say "my own stuff".
In the past I have always marked my own items with a low value like 10 pounds to avoid paying import duties. But as I am sending my laptop which needs to be insured, I am going to have to put the correct price on there.
Also, is there anyway I can claim the Australian taxback for the laptop?
Thanks

Why don't you take your laptop on the plane with you! I always take mine as carry on!?

Oh beacuse I am not going straight home, I'm going to travel around Australia and SE Asia for 4-6 months. Was considering bringing the laptop around, but it would be more hassle than it's worth.
