Shipping a smaller container
 

We have decided to bring all our bits and bobs after realising we would lose too much in selling and buying again.

We wont need a massive container just something for a small amount of furniture and clothing.

Any recommendations of suitable companies and idea of costs?

hi think you will find the smallist container they will ship long haul is 20ft

You can share a container - just get quotes from the shipping companies based on how much stuff you intend to bring, then they will pack your goods in a container shared with othe migrant(s). Cheaper than having one that you won't fill, and its the way many of us have done it when not shipping a houseful of stuff. .

Good idea. I wasnt sure how they would do it but figured we were'nt the only ones in this boat.

The only thing I'd like to add is that a 20ft container is approx £3200-£3500 sole use. If you share a container and use half, quarter etc... then you should only pay for what you use.

So make sure you're not getting ripped and paying for half if you only use a quarter of it etc...

This may give you some idea - but obviously different companies will vary ...
For 200 cubic feet, we were quoted £960 by one shipper and £1200 by another - both plus insurance. This was mainly made up of books, files and general personal items , rather than a full load. Will pm you the names if interested. I have also seen recommendations for Seven Seas and Excess Baggage.

ANother option is get a reefer. Its still a 20' container but of the regrigerated type. Due to insulation etc its smaller. I was told they are cheaper as there are more reefers coming to UK full than going back - therefore cheaper as any business is good business.
It was offered to us by Anglo Pacific but was too small for us.

I am coming the opposite way to you Pozz, but am using a removalist that deals in overseas shipping. I got a quote for a door to door shipment for 100 cubic feet. They are coming on Friday morning to pick it up.

They co-load the containers with other people's personal effects. I know they use Grace Removals at the Australian side. Maybe give them a ring?
