Shipping relatively small amounts of stuff?
Hi!
My fiancee and I are moving to Perth in August (well, just as long as I get that police check back, send it off with the other stack of paperwork, cross my fingers and pray, obviously...) and I'm trying to find out about shipping personal effects.
We're in the process of selling nearly everything because we really didn't want the hassle of shipping furniture etc etc (seeing as it's all cheapy ikea stuff anyway) so we're really only goind to want to ship my record collection (maybe 200 12"s), some clothes, a (small) PC, a couple of DVDs and books, personal paperwork and trinkets. I reckon (although time will tell!) that we're probably only looking at a couple of tea crates, maybe a bit more.
Does anyone have any ideas of companies to try? I got one quote for about £300, but have nothing to compare it to. There seems to be lots of talk of 40ft containers on this forum, but to be honest I think that *might* be overkill! Any advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks,
Ed

Other people on here have recommended them, but keep track of them as some have said they can be a little slow.

I am shipping 4 boxes of stuff and I am using Excess International. Apart from the fact that they want everything on the ground floor on the day of pick up (great when I stay on the 3rd floor with no lift) they seem good and appear reasonable. They have been mentioned on the forum several times. Suggest you ask for a couple of extra boxes - if you don't use them they will collect at the same time as pick up. You can organise your insurance seperately with Letton Percival as per forum - cheaper than with shipping companies.

We're shipping similar amounts to yourselves and so far they have been very helpful. Our boxes have been delivered to self pack and any we dont use are returned free of charge - this has helped in the guesstimates of the volume to ship.
A tea chest size costs £45 and they also supply half size for half the price. They will also let ship your own size boxes/parcels/etc and you can get a quote if you phone them with the size.
Obviously there are aadditionalcharges to consider not just those quoted above.

Thanks for that - I've now done some more digging on them and it seems that a lot of people think they're pretty good, so I reckon I'll give it a go.
But...
Eh?

1 £25 del and collection for boxes outside of m25
2 £30 quarantine costs (more or less dependent on volume)
3 £35 extra del charge (if you're going to Tasmania, or I think anywhere 30 miles(?) out from big mainland CBDs)
If you're off to Perth it's not such a big deal, just 1 and 2. I did the whole pricing up thing against excessinternational and found these guys the better value, including all costs.
Oh yeah they also sent all the necessary UK/Aus customs paperwork plus packing tape, marker pens and bubble wrap.
Insurance was offered but not yet decided what to do....
Give em a ring and let us know what you think.......

We just recently moved to the nsw - mid north coast. We only had small amount to bring over, but included all of hubby's work tools...so was very prescious!!!!
We used pickfords and I have to say..can't fault them. We paid approx 500 pounds for 2 squared meters, including insurance. We only had basic, basic cover, as when you read the small print, you weren't covered for anything!! We lived in Bognor Regis and delivered the boxes and tool chests to Fareham. We only paid for port to port but when the goods arrived, the sydney contact said they had truck coming up and just popped our stuff on that, no extra coast.
Nothing was opened or checked in customs!!!
I hope that helps....
Best wishes and good luck with the move.
