Shipping Quote And Recommendation 2013 (merged threads)
Hi there,
We are trying to get quotes for shipping companies from Gloucestershire to Perth. Can anyone recommend any companies they have used. We are also considering shipping a car if anyone else has done this and can recommend a company. Can you also advise on what you paid for your shipping, we have had the following quotes from one company so far: 20ft container household items only - £4055 40ft container with car - £5896 Are these reasonable ? Many thanks. Cgirl |
Re: Shipping Quote And Recommendation
Seem ok, a bit higher than we paid 3 years ago. I don't think there are any stand out shippers, there are good and bad reviews of all. Get three quotes and go with the cheapest. Don't go with the person you liked the most when they came around, you won't see that person again.

BE has a couple of sections dedicated to removals near the bottom of the index (http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=192 and http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=193). There is also a search function amongst the buttons at the top ( I did a quick search for you and found this one http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...light=removals) A lot of reading, but hopefully will give you some info :) |

Thanks for the replies.
I just wondered if anyone might be able to provide some names of shipping companies they have used and would be happy to recommend. Or are there some existing threads that you could point me to that have views on different shipping companies people have used. Thanks. C |

Re: Shipping Quote And Recommendation
There's quite a few previous threads that you can find using the search function on the forum.
The general consensus when I looked into it was get a few quotes and then go with whoever is cheapest out of the bigger companies. Don't pick who had the nicest salesman as you'll never contact them again after their initial visit. We had visits and quotes from Anglo Pacific, Britannia, Pickfords and John Masons. They were all pretty similar quote wise (3900-4200 GBP) for a 20ft from near Cambridge to Melbourne door-to-door. We went with Pickfords in the end as they responded the best to follow up emails we sent with extra questions. They also matched the lowest quote and gave us free storage for 5 weeks. Our shipping arrived a few weeks earlier than estimated and there were no breakages or any issues. That was in March this year. Get insurance via Letton Percival rather than from movers was also a good tip in other threads that we used. |

Re: Shipping Quote And Recommendation
We've gone with Pickfords for a move from the north of Scotland to the Aussie outback. Had three quotes from different companies, all pretty similar TBH but the guy from Pickfords seemed far more knowledgeable and gave us far more confidence. We had a single container and it was about £5k. Considering the distance our stuff has to go once in Oz we thought this wasn't bad (although we have the luxury that my employer is reimbursing the cost). The whole pack up process took 3 days and was very efficient and reassuring. We'd certainly recommend them based on our experience so far but of course like all big companies it often boils down to the local branch staff. Good luck!
