I have received a quote for shipping a 20ft container from Dublin port to Brisbane port for €1950, we are planning on shipping our car and household items.
1. Can sofas, boxes etc be packed inside and on top of car.

2. What other expenses are there when the container arrives in Brisbane port, customs, taxes etc.

3. Can we arrange registration for our car before we leave.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you don't mind me asking Siobhan who was that quote with as it sounds pretty reasonable! We've had 5 or 6 quotes to ship a 20' container to Brisbane from Birmingham ranging from £2,500 - £3,700.

This quote is from Bell Ferries in Dublin, the quote does not include transportation to Dublin (we live 2 hours away) or transportation from Brisbane port, we also have to work out how to get our things to Dublin.

Before you can load furniture into a container with a car , you need to build a frame above the car to protect it from damage, it is called a mezzanine .
As for registering the car before you go , NO ,you will have to present the car for inspection at the relevant transport department in your state to make sure it is compliant with Australian Design rules...........mm

Can't believe you got such a low quote ... I think it may be worth your while to double-check this quote to see exactly what's included ... our container Dublin to Brisbane 2 years ago cost us E 5,400 (20ft, packed for us).

Can't remember the exact cost at this end, think it was a few hundred dollars? for the customs charges etc. Your costs may be more because of the car - do a search for "shipping car" threads - I know there are plenty on here!
