Shipping possessions - advice
Hi. I'm planning on moving to Australia in February. I'm not selling my house as UK selling market is very weak and therefore I'm leaving most of my furniture in the UK. I will however be taking across more than the airlines will permit me to take and I'd be grateful for recommendations on cost efficient ways of shipping a small number of possessions. Thanks

There are loads of excess baggage companies that can do this for you, here is just one, many more found by google.

We also rent our house in the UK but we brought all our furniture with us as I don't want to rent out a furnished house, far too much trouble and most people like their own furniture. Also it would be very expensive to furnish a house from scratch in Australia.

Pile it into boxes, which then go in a container, and then on a ship.
Takes about 3 months to arrive. They give you a tracking link that allows you to plot the position of the ship minute by minute.

Be aware, although upfront prices are low, they will sting you for stupidly expensive 'customs inspection' charges at the Australian end. Also its more cost efficient to send multiple boxes in one shipment than multiple shipments - so send all you think you might possibly want in one go, excepting the wood, plants, tools, etc.

I've been offsite for a while but just wanted to say thanks to both for your advice.
