Shipping our bed from Mitcham to Sunshine Coast??
Hello
We are moving in Jan 2006...YIPPEE!
We are wanting to ship our 6 ft double bed. The base of the bed splits into two halves. We were considering filling each base of the bed with personal belongings (CDs, photos etc). We have been told that this is possible, but the weight of each section must not be too heavy for two men to carry.
Has anyone else shipped a bed and filled it with stuff? What costs did you incur?
Can anyone recommend a shipping firm to use? What prices have other people paid for shipping stuff to auz?
All help and advice appreciated.

It all depends whereabouts in Mitcham you live. We decided to ship our bed from Mitcham to Shrewsbury first and then sleep on it there for about 4 years before shipping it to Oz........bit I don't recommend you do that, best to ship it straight to Australia.
We used Crown

Yes fill the bugger, but remember the weight for the guys!!
We used Crown, they were excellent, the stuff was delivered on the day they said it would be 12 weeks before hand.
20ft container about £3000 - £3500, may be cheaper from London though.
Sunshine Coast eh, what a beautiful part of the world, Coolum is paradise
Hope this helps

Being only able to afford a flat in Mitcham in 2000 was one of the reasons why I left the UK!!!
Is it still really run down? It's funny people complain about Australia - but frankly I've just thought back to South london, especially Mitcham, and I don't miss it one bit

Mitcham...umm, yes I agree, if you are complaining about Aus then think of 'loverly' Mitcham Yes, not a great place to live. However, it is being developed now, with a new Virgin Gym, new riverside apartments (but over the wandle, doh!) . I think in 5 yrs it will be the new Tooting.
I am sooooooooo looking forward to moving - leaving the UK Jan 18th
We are busy decorating to get the house on the market. Lots to do.
Marvellous
