Shipping the mutt....?
 

Hi Guys,

We plan to ship our 3 year old Boxer with us when we head off to Brisbane at the end of the year(ish)..........

Does anyone have any experience of this and/ or can recommend any companies to deal with?

How did you and your furry friend cope with the process..........

Finding it hard to believe that our hyper active Boxer will sit still for 24 hours in a wooden box at the moment.....!!! :eek:

Should we do what we are doing with everything else.....sell it and buy a newer model when we arrive?? :D :D :D

we too have got a hyper active 2 year old boxer bitch (3 in november). she doesn't travel very well at all. gets over heated just going to the park in the car. she just so full on and giddy. we are deliberating over whther to put her through the journey because she doesn't travel very well.

sorry can't answer your question, as we haven't looked into yet. just thought i would share a thought with a fellow boxer sufferer!! :D :D

We've got a 3 year old hyperactive Springer Spaniel who springs everywhere..who we shipped to Brisbane [via quarantine in Sydney]. No problems.

We used Golden Arrow from UK to Sydney. They were excellent.

Dog stayed in quarantine in Sydney for a month. We spoke to quarantine every two days, no probs...very helpful...and we sent a box of goodies for the mutt too.

We then arranged collection of pooch from Sydney via Dogtainers [interstate doggy deliverers] to Brisbane i.e dog picked up from Sydney and brought to our front door in Brissy. No worries ;)

We only had one prob.

The dog got straight out of the van in Bris, and crapped on next door neighbours lawn :eek: .

Obviously no way to endear yersen to the natives :o

Hi guys,
It's an expensive old business, and there are heaps of threads on it. We brought our 3 cats out. I was, like most owners, very concerned on their welfare. Didn't want to be selfish and put them through the ordeal if they were gonna be scarred for life etc. Spoke several times to my vet, and he reassured me. I worked for BA and you'd be amazed the no. of animals that get flown around the globe. Even just out of Edinburgh we'd have at least 3 a week probably. We went with a Scottish company, but Golden Arrow get a good write up, and I was v. impressed with the guy when I spoke to him and got a quote.

Now my babies are here, they're loving it! 4 weeks in quarantine didn't hurt them. In fact Mischief the female, like her mum was on a permanent diet, but she lost weight and looks better for it! I might just attach a wee photo of my little girl.

ours is a bit particular where she drops one as well, she wont do it on a walk, saves it for the side of our house!!! :rolleyes: :rolleyes: makes cleaning it up easier anyway :D :D

We love our three year old cocker to death but have decided to leave him with our parents here in the UK when we are granted our visa. The main reasons being

1) The thought of him alone in a box in the dark for 24 hours+
2) We're planning to live in Brisbane & the nearest airport that accepts pets is Sydney so we can hardly pop down & see him during the month long quarantine
3) He is stupid enough here in the UK meaning that he gets too hot running about from late spring to early autumn. We think the weather might literally kill him
4) We're planning on renting in the centre of Bris Vegas & know we'll have problems finding somewhere dog compatible. We also think it'll be very hard for us to settle with him as we know how tying he is.

Our parents help us a lot with him already & they don't like the thought of him travelling & spending a month away from us. We know he will be very well looked after.

We might have to find a dog rescue centre in Brissy & volunteer to help walk some of their dogs in our spare time - just like you can at a rescue centre near us here in the UK.

Some good points CJN, however, we were also worried about the dog killing itslef with it's hyper activity in the heat of Oz.....we spoke to a couple of vets, turns out, as we suspected that dogs will adjust their behaviour accordingly.....believe it or not, dogs DO know when to give it a rest!!!!!! Not that our Boxer would believe me if I told her that! Just need to provide plenty of water and a shady place when they finally get on teh brink of passing out - as does ours on a regular basis!

Good to see some fellow boxer owners here who can sympathise with our predicament!! Good job they're bloody cute, that's all I can say!!!

I looked into shipping our dog Holly out here. She is a rescue dog, and lovely natured. I felt after all she had been through already ie being abandoned that it may be too much for her. Also DH's parents wouldn't let her leave the country as they love her too. Now she lives with them and is apprantly very happy. I miss her heaps though.

Our boxers nearly five and showing no signs of slowing down, Im dreading shipping her over, even though shes nuts shes a bit nervous at times.
Anyone shipped a bag of nerves? :scared:

Anyone know how common Boxers are down under? Just wondering if people will look at her like she's a freak or something? :D

I've seen a couple in the parks in Perth. Folk are nuts about dogs here. They won't think she's a freak I'm sure.

I saw a good few boxer dogs in Brisbane and I know my husband Uncle who lives far North QLD has one too so they are pretty common there too!

My dog Poppy is a collie x rescue dog from cat and dog home (now 5 years old) - we are definatly taking her but like others I'm concerned about her overheating on the flight from anxiety - like many collies she can be a bit nervy at times and gets car sick and salivates on a journey - we love her to bits though and we have to try taking her - I have been reassured so many times that she will be fine but I'm worried sick about it and would never forgive myself if she died on the flight. She is such a happy friendly dog but sometimes intelligence is not a good thing as she might get her self in a sate about being on the flight.

my older brother is in NSW and he's got as boxer as well (it's his 2nd). i don't think they are that rare, he got hold of his quite easily via a breeder.

our boxer, poppy, is doolally. she is totally nuts. very lovable though, the kids love her and she is so good with them. the 3 year old daughter, rolls up her eyelids and pokes her on the eyeball, and poppy just takes it!! :p :p

she is a little nervous, but more stupid :D

We are shipping our Boxer from Bristol to Adelaide in August. I wanted to give her to a Boxer rescue because of the heat over in Oz, just walking her around the fields in the UK heat and she pants and rests for ages! BUT the wife said she'd rather leave me behind than the dog...so...the dog goes!!! approx £1900 for import fees plus blood tests and quartantine fees to pay!

All I can say is if you want to give me a PM around the beginning of Sept I can tell you how it went!

Good to hear there are a few Boxers in Oz......the dog has got an inferiority complex as it is! :D :D

If it's any consolation to people that are worried about small boxes and shipping crates etc.....

Sandy, our Boxer, stays in a small(ish) cage when we are out! Has done since she tore a hole in the front door at 9 months old! She has always gone in it willingly and is happier and more secure in there nowadays ......

Don't worry, dogs are 'den' animals and actually quite enjoy a small, quiet space to be left alone.....apparently.

She will even go into her cage if we are at home and she wants to be left alone......
