Re: Shipping Ireland to Australia
Hi,
We moved most of our posessions over from Wales to Brisbane last year. We didn't ship any big furniture, and we'd advise you be very ruthless with what you bring- eg a lot of electrical items and furniture are cheaper to replace over here. Also, Brisbane only seems to have digital TV, and we're not sure if overseas decoders work. There's lots more discussions about that on this site! We have brought stuff we probably don't need- notably warm clothes!! Anyway, we brought 2 suitcases, 9 book boxes and 8 tea chests, and Seven Seas were the cheapest and the best. We have used them before, from New Zealand to UK; everything has always arrived safely, on time, and with no hidden charges, and their door to door service is brilliant. They track everything, and even with our stuff in storage in Brisbane during the floods, they were able to reassure us it was safe and dry. I'd recommend them, and they seem to ship any amount of stuff. We have friends who have just moved from London to NZ, and their shipper has messed them about with delivery in NZ, customs fees, lost paperwork etc etc. Seven Seas freephone number in Ireland is 1800 21 66 98, or google them.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for that. Will ring seven seas tomorra. We want to take all furniture because our thinking Is familiarity will be comforting for the kids. We can replace furniture as and when we want and can afford to rather than rushing out buying everything.
Any other company's or advice would be appreciated.

Warning - this post is not helpful but I can't resist.........
Don't you think you'll need more than a 20ft container if you want to ship the whole of Ireland??
Sorry..........Monday mornings need brightening.
Hope your move goes smoothly, whoever you choose to go with........

Looks like your quote is from an Irish firm? Branch out and maybe you'll experience freedom from Paddy Pricing before you even leave Erin's green shores.

Standard 20ft container is 1170 cubic feet
If €3400 is for solo use of 20ft container, door to door including wrapping and fees etc, then it sounds not bad to me
