Question Shipping insurance - advice please!

We're having our belongings shipped in a couple of weeks and are looking around for insurance... does anyone know of any reputable companies?

Our shipping agents charge 3% of the total value of the shipment, and we'd like to get a quote for lower than that (but not if it means something like they won't pay the first 1% of a claim) - does anyone have any recommendations?

Cheers!

I've heard of them, but apparently they don't cover electrical deragement (or something) and we have quite a few electrical items.

Do all the normal insurers (Norwich Union etc) cover shipping or just specialists? Do you know vaguely what % they charge (Letton P)?

Thanks!

That seems a bit unfair, especially if anything electrical is damaged by the removal company! Is there any other way of insuring them through something like travel insurance??

Some shipping companies do offer the appropriate insurance for mechanical problems, ie Crown do; but I believe if the 'tube' is faulty when unpacked then this is not covered. For any self packers I think options are limited.

If getting a shipping company to do all the work, check their insurance policy to see what it includes, some are better than others.
