Default Shipping...how much can you get in half a container?

Hey

Hope someone may be able to help....just trying to work out how much stuff I could ship over (I am on my long school hols and have time to start streamlining/putting stuff on ebay!)

I am intending just to do half a container....I would guess i have a one bedroom flats worth of stuff although without white goods.....is this a realistic amount to try and fit in a half load?

Could anyone give examples of large bits of furniture they have managed to get in a half load eg sofa, bed, table etc?

Any help would be great.

Cheers

We had approx 3/4 of a container and that included a superkingsize bed, sofabed, a piano, a couple of chairs, kids bedroom furniture, a butchers block, tv stereos etc, loads of boxes of clothes, books, toys bedding, and a tumble dryer. We had a total of 101 items (Boxes and furniture) It worked out cheaper and less hassle for us to have our own container than to share one.
Anyway I would have thought that half a container would be plenty for a 1 bed flat, unless you have tonnes of stuff that is!
Hope this helps!

First thing you need to do, is find out the type of container and internal dimensions...

Thanks cannot wait....can i ask how much you paid for that? Just don't want to end up paying more to ship it over than the stuff is actually worth

I think we paid over the odds as we were very last minute and we could only get 1 company who could do the date for us. We paid £3200 without insurance and that included everything - all packing and unpacking whatever we wanted unpacking at the other end. We used White & co and couldn't fault them - very impressed. We went from a 4 bed house, but didn't have much furniture.

Hi!

Whether you can fit in half a container depends on how big your things are! A 20ft container holds 1050 cubic feet of belongings and is about the size of a single garage. So if you can imagine everything you having filling half a single garage then yes, a half load might work for you! Best thing to do is to get a free of charge estimage from a removal company, they will survey your items and tell you exactly how much space you need - and its no obligation! Most companies offer groupage services if you dont have enough to fill a whole container which is cheaper as you only pay for the space you need.

Hope that helps!

Kirsty

Thanks Kirsty for the advice....I think i could pretty much get all my stuff in that space.

I'm guessing you can stack things on top of each other so the ntire space can be filled?

Yep! Obviously the better you stack things the more you can fit in, if you're getting a removal company to load and pack for you then they will know the best ways to fit things in and how to load to best avoid movement in the container when at sea thus less risk of damage!
