Shipping a few boxes to Oz?
Hi
We have three or four boxes of clothes/electrical goods to ship from the UK to Melbourne prior to our move. Has anyone got any experiences of companies to contact or avoid? We have had a few quotes which have averaged out at - 3 x 6 cubic feet boxes and 1 x 9 cubic feet box, total cost about £350. Any advice appreciated. Gavin. |

Hi Gavin
You could try this company - http://www.upakweship.co.uk Someone on here recommended it, have not used them as yet! Let us know how you get on. Cheers AnitaB |

Re: Shipping a few boxes to Oz?
From Memory, Allied Pickfords would charge 160 pounds for the first box and 40 pounds thereafter, so that would be ..uummmm.....let me think......280 pounds. I found them really good. Look them up on the internet.

I used excess baggage who in the UK were excellent stuff arrived really quickly, sent by air door to door took 10 days including customs clearance. The people they use this end in Brisbane can't remember their names weren't brilliant zero customer service skills! But all my stuff arrived in one piece. :)

We used Seven Seas (http://www.sevenseasworldwide.com/uk/) in January. It cost us GBP 660 for 5 teachests, 5 book boxes, two skis (wrapped in towels) and a huge suitcase. All our boxes arrived in perfect condition within the 8-10 week timefrrame and there were absolutely no hassles. One box had been inspected, but I had declared a few items in that box. I was very happy with the service and they even delivered out boxes to our new home instead of the address I had given them on the forms - which saved us an extra trip! Good Luck! |
Re: Shipping a few boxes to Oz?
I used www.voovit.com they charge 180 quid for delivery supply and collection and shipment of 5 boxes with tape. You can send additional boxes and if you supply the box its only 20 quid per extra box.

They ring you to let you know when to go to customs and then when the boxes are ready for collection.
You need to careful with operators like Voovit and Upakweship, and seven seas. They aren't bonded - I am told. A friend who used to work in the shipping business said that there is a high rate of attrition, and with prices like Voovit's I am not surprised. I would only use a bonded member of Brit Assoc of Removers, like Anglo Pacific or Excess Baggage - www.excess-baggage.com. (I have used both in the past). Otherwise your stuff might finish up in Singapore if they go bust. Then you've got problems!!! Good luck. |
