Shipping Electrials and Tools
Hi
We are considering our shipping list and wondered if our tv, dvd, PS3 etc would work OK in OZ, also if we bought Aussie PS3 games and DVD's wld they play on our system? Any advice would be appreciated! |

For DVD's, unless you have a multi-region player your UK DVD's will not play on an Australian player and vice versa.
As far as the TV is concerned, as long as it has an HDMI input it should be OK - if the actual tuner in the TV has problems you can buy a set-top box (~$100) and connect it via the HDMI. Can't answer about PS3 - sorry! |

Any advice would be appreciated! DVD - assuming you've set it to multiregion (virtually every recent box from the UK can do it) it will work fine. You are likely to want to still order DVDs from the UK anyway (price). Blu Ray region is the same, so that will work. PS3 - works OK. You might want to persuade it its in Oz, but personally I keep it set on the UK because that way you keep the iPlayer links on the menu - which you can connect up to route via a VPN so you can watch UK TV. Pretty sure the games aren't region coded, but again you are likely to want to import UK games because of the price. and DECT phones work here, although you need to connect to their phone sockets, so maybe best to buy one base unit here, and run the other phones as secondary handsets. ADSL modems, work here as well. Most kitchen stuff will work, but their sockets are only up to 10Amps, so high power stuff will be a problem. Microwaves, mixers, etc. are OK. Bring LOTS of 4 way adapters and put aussie plugs on them, so you don't have to change hundreds of plugs. Oh, and bayonet lights are becoming a rarity here. If you are bringing lights, bring bulbs as well. |

Digital may work, but maybe not on all channels and not with the HD they have here.

Bayonet light globes are just as common (if not more so) as the screw base (ES). However incandescent light bulbs have been outlawed except for the less common sizes that so far can't be made as Compact Fluoro or 240V LED.

My understanding is that Aus uses standard DVB-T format to broadcast all Freeview channels, so any current UK Freeview box or TV will just work, after of course running a channel scan.
