Has anybody NOT used a pet mover for sending their pets to Australia?

I was wondering how difficult it is to do it on my own or do I NEED a pet mover?

When I brought my dog over to Australia (he flew actually 2 years ago today - how funny!), I did quite a lot myself such as all the paperwork for the Import Permit and then final export document (from Defra) but had to go to a pet agent for the flight bit. I confidently called British Airways to book his flight and they told me no bookings from private individuals. Apparently too many mistakes had happened this way in the past and they now avoided it by only accepting bookings from pet exporters. I did keep the cost down as much as possible by doing everything to that point though. Best wishes with your move. Karen
