Default Shipping costs...again

Hi

I know that this has been asked loads before, but once more for luck(?)

What sort of quotes have people been getting for shipping costs?

Also does anyone have an explanation for what will fit into the different size containers for example a 2 bedroom house is 20ft or something?

We have just got our visa and are starting to think about all these things, but there is soo much to do we dont know where to start. Cats, shipping, flights, accomdation, bank accounts...

And most importantly, a long break in SE asia, where to go, what to do, which is keeping me away from the practicle things like shipping quotes

Thanks thats brilliant.

Do they do all the packing etc?

I am filling in online quote requests and they ask whether packing is required, i thought that they would do the packing because it all needs to be specially packed etc to to go in the container.

Is this the case, or could we pack ourselves? Saying that I dont know if the saving in money would be worth the spend in time and aggravation

The quote we received is packing and packaging, also packaging disposal at the other end Inclusive

you will probably share a container with someone else, it does take a little bit longer as you have to wait for that container to be full, but the average is between 8-12 weeks, and we used allied pickfords for that

That sounds like what we were expecting, do you have loads of furniture or are you minamalist?

We have a 3 bed house and had a quote yesterday for close to £4k which seems too much, we are thinking about what we can leave behind. Will get in contact with John Mason, that sounds far more reasonable

I dont know about flat packing any of our stuff, the bed can go down a bit, possibly the wardrobe, maybe the legs off the table but thats about all I guess.

We are not taking any kitchen stuff at all except a few appliances, looking at leaving the couch (its pretty manky these days) and book cases. So really only 2 bedrooms, a study and dining room + tv cabinet and the odd small bits and pieces.

It doenst sound a lot does it, surely it cant take up that much space! I think our house is smaller than one of those containers anyway
