shipping costs

This may be of interest to some of you. We have had three quotations for full use of a 20ft container door to door to brisbane as follows :~

anglo pacific £3842:00

pss £3109:00

crown £3890:00 (including AQIS)

We will be ringing pss on monday to book a date for shipping for end of april.
There estimator Roy Parkin was excellent and had all the answers to our questions.

Regards

Maria & Mark

Our estimator from PSS was useless, wasn't interested in our business and couldn't wait to get back down the road. Crown were so proffesional in every way whereas PSS couldn't even find our house, so how they ever hope to find Australia really left me thinking. The documentation that PSS sent out was equally unimpressive. They were more expensive than Crown but cheaper than dolphin, even if they were cheaper than Crown they did not convince us they were the people for the job, just goes to show..... It is worth shopping around.

We used PSS and had no complaints at all. The guys who unpacked at this end said that Roy used to work with them in Brissie - so he has plenty of experience. Both the packers and the unpackers were great and really friendly. The ones at this end even assembled our son's bed for us!

Good luck! :)

Re: shipping costs

Our mover cost £9193 for a 20' container UK-Southern Highlands, inc insurance and almost 6 months storage.

We are currently making up the list of breakages - around two dozen - for the claim.

Not a Crowning success!

Hi Maria & Mark,

Don't mean to sound rude, but isn't it cheaper to sell what you have here and buy new when you get to Oz.

If you do a realistic sum of eveyhting you own in a house and calculate the replacement costs you will probably find that it will cost many times more than £3000. Mu latest valuation for insurance was over £20,000

I agree. Used household items have very little re-sell value, and it will cost you more to buy it all again, as opposed to shipping it.

It will cost £200 to ship our double bed, or £300-400 (in oz) to buy a new one. If we sold it in the UK we'd get much less than £100 for it, so it's worth our while to ship it!

I wanted to get a quote from Allied Pickfords but whenever I ring they never ever answer the phone (and I must have called about 30 times) I ended up ringing a Leics. company called Britannia who came and gave us a quote. They seem ok but I would have liked a quote from AP's. Let me know how you get on if you ever get through!!!

try Eagle Freight. £2750 door-door UK - Perth for us. They`re more into doing a good job than fancy brochures which you pay for.

We had our stuff moved from a village in Leicestershire to Melbourne, we took up only a third of a 20ft container and thast cost usonly 1300 pounds (sorry have a new ozzie keyboard and it doesent do pound symbols).
We used: ATLANTIC INTERNATIONAL MOVERS (based in Lutterworth, Leicestershire Tel: 0800 169 3061. We had a couple of minor breakages but nothing of any importance, good service and great price!

Hint: Hold the "Alt" key down whilst keying 0163 then release the "Alt" key. The £ will magically appear!
