Default Shipping companies (which one did you go with)

Hey there

Having now sold our house we are turning our attention to getting quotes for the shipping of our furniture. We will need to store it for about 3 months (and will do this uk side until we have the visa's - wouldn't do to not get the visa and have our furniture 12,000 miles away :scared: )

Who did people go with (we live in Waterlooville, near portsmouth, so any local ones would be good to hear about) and were they happy.

Any opinions gratefully received.

Sarah

Hi Sarah

We're using John Masons, mainly because they were the cheapest quote we got but also because they were the only ones out of about six I contacted that could be bothered to send someone round to discuss it and work out what we were taking.

They do storage too, they've quoted us £24 a week as if we dont have the visa by the time we need to complete our stuff will have to go into storage for a wee while. Not ideal but needs must...

They told us they need one week's notice if stuff just going into storage and three weeks if it's ready to be loaded and shipped (we're having part container).

Thanks Bridie

I will contact them, that sounds just like what we are looking for as our stuff will have to go into storage as well. (Never thought I would say that).

I tried that, PSS and Crown were the only ones who bothered to quote, but it was based on JMs volume and they were more expensive.

Two other companies (Dorree Bonner and Eagle) didnt even bother to respond to my enquiry - charming eh!

we used crown....couldn't fault them, had 12 weeks storage in the uk and 8 of them were free. it cost us about £4000 which included storage, insurance customs & clearance.......

we had a full container and when it finally arrived in oz it did'nt cost another penny.

PSS couldn't come in the next few weeks so we ditched our pre-race favourites.
Masons and Crown were the almost the same price after you add back inspection fees that Masons excluded from the price.
Robinsons were £500 cheaper but we didn't get their quote back for 2 weeks by which time we had already committed to Crown.
8 weeks on we are still waiting for Bishops Move's quote to arrive

Thanks Worzel. It is incredible that these people don't even come back with quotes, never mind actually committing to the business. Must be nice to be in such a position that you don't need the business. We are seriously thinking of going with a local company (depending on the quote) as we feel they might be more hungry for the business (how many pompey people can there be leaving the UK!)

Hi Sarah,
We will be using PSS. We had four quotes and they came out the cheapest for us. We had a bad experience with Robinsons...very expensive and took three weeks to get quote out to us. Brittania were quite reasonable too, but I have to say we went for PSS becuase they were very reasonable and we'd heard good things about them.
Good luck with your decision.
Claire.

Booked with PSS for mid September move. Quotes are all the muchness really and seemed to vary slightly. PSS we have gone with mainly due to the reasonable rep here and speaking to them on the phone they have been nothing but helpful chappies.

Hi Claire

Thanks for that. We have given 6 companies a call. the three local ones made appointments there and then and all within the next week or two whereas the three national ones including PSS said they would get back to us and haven't yet so we shall see. Thanks for the advice though.
