Shipping Companies
Hi to anyone who cares to read this and offer us some help and advice. We are currently organising a move to Oz and have had several shipping companies in to quote on the removals. Listening to all that they have to offer and creating a spread sheet on the pro's and con's, once i have totalled up all the 'costs' including storage i am non the wiser and still can't decide on who to go with.
We were hoping that someone who has actually gone through the move could give us some feed back on the company they used. Value for money, did everything go to plan, were there any breakages etc etc.....
Can anyone help please??

Hiya
It depends on where you are. The big companies cost more but do back up your claim. We went with Crown. Big company - local personal service particularly at the Sydney end...so pleasant.
Look the chances are something might break in transport - it is ship and it is 3 months so do insure. We lost a mirror (I didn't like it either). Insured - no probs.
All the best. Oh they packed. May have cost more but meant that everything went straight through customs with no problems. Including the lawnmower!
Only other thing is sell as mucj as you can. So much we brought that we are now selling. If you don't know - get rid of it. Car boots are brilliant. We did quite a few and made some money - wish we had done more

Re: Shipping Companies
We also shipped with Crown. Had quotes from Interdean and Allied Pickfords. These are some of the larger companies. You will get cheaper but these companies do it quite well. There are always going to be issues and you can search the forum for some of these things. Some things to consider:
Get multiple quotes and make sure they are quoting for the same thing - e.g. they are packing, how many boxes (compare the companies for similar quantities), level of insurance etc
Insurance - make sure you either do itemised insurance BEFORE they pack it or bulk insurance which is more expensive.
Think about the insurance options - damp/mildew damage at sea, breakables to replace the set rather than a single plate.
Do they handle all customs paperwork for you.
Remember to take into consideration import issues with OZ - wood products, foods, mud/soil etc.
We were happy with Crown on the whole, but did suffer a bit of the packers not listening for those things not to be packed and some stuff not packed. We ended up with some UK stuff here and some things left in the UK. At the OZ end, you need to make sure you have unpacked what you want - they will tend to unpack what they pack for insurance purposes, but this can sometimes be tricky if you want some to remain boxed.
Are they going to come back and remove packaging & boxes once you have unpacked the remaining items.
We had some broken items - something to expect - and Crown did fulfil a replace and repair as appropriate.
Whatever shipper you chose there will be issues so make sure you pick a good one to start with.
We have used Crown before and are happy and have known people to use the others mentioned above who were also happy.
Good luck.
