Shipping a car

Hi all

Does anyone know how I can work out the cost of shipping my car to Perth?

I know it depends on the value and model etc, so on this score, it is still a goer from my point of view.

I would welcome a web site or reddie reckoner on working out if it is financially worth doing it?

Thanks in advance

Hi BlueToffee,

have a look at the Australian Customs web page under importing a vehicle. You should be able to work out all appropriate charges.

Try...... www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4371

Hope this is correct link.

Also looked into shipping charge.Worked out about £1600.00. for a 4 door saloon. This did not include any import taxes and was in a shared container.

I used the calculator here and found out it would cost about £3000 to get my car there so wasn't worth it for me as it is cheaper to sell here and buy there.

Dont do it ! sell in UK and buy again when you get here

Trust me on this one.

we brought our car down (cos my ex-company were paying for it - Nisson Patrol with all the gubbings, including rooftop tent) but after going through the whole shipping experience, I would honestly advise is not worth the hassle, no matter how much money you could make from resale.

The Patrol is now sitting in the backyard and we have subsequently bought 2 more cars since arriving. (only use the patrol about 2x per year for camping holidays) If I had actually paid the shipping costs myself I would be majorly pissed off.

We looked at taking my wife's car over but the re sale value would have been classed as an import, so make sure you are valuing yours as an import and not a oz spec car. Imports are harder to sell, apparently!

What about just sticking it in your sea container and lugging it over that way, instead of using a separate company? :)
