Default Shipping Car

Anyone had experience of shipping a car and was it worth it.

I have a 96 (n plate) Celica convertible with 44000 miles. Have owned this for 2 years. Current value is about £10k and trade about £8500.

From what I can see the same car in Oz will cost considerably more. I found one that was five years older for same price. !

No idea at present of shipping costs but understand the taxes might well make it a bad idea to ship.

Also selling in Oz would this become a future problem.

Any advice experiences please.

Try Karmanshipping .com they will give you all the imformation you'll need, including the taxes you might be liable for.
Also Imorex shipping quoted me £1725.00 for a 40' container to take 2 vehicles plus £500 for loading and unloading.

You will be liable to customs duty, which for a car up to 30 years old is 15% of the purchase price.

All imported vehicles are subject to Goods and Services Tax (GST)
levied at 10% of the value of 'taxable importataion value'(VoTI). VoTI is the sum of the duty, customs value, and international insurance and transportation costs. A vehicles customs value, if purchased after 2nd March 1998 is defined as 'The purchase price plus the cost of any mods or improvements'.
You will also have to pay your shipping company to steam clean and 'disinfect' it before it leaves..

Having listened to this question being answered at a seminar over the weekend at the Sandown Park exhibition, the advice was unless it's a particularly expensive vehicle, then sell it and buy another when you get there,. It would also have to meet with registation requirements of the state where its going to be registered (or it must be modified).

Shipping costs, I have read that to ship a small car (ie Escort/ Golf size) from UK to Sydney would cost around £1000 but you would obviously need to ring around fo prices.
Hope this helps.
