This is good advice. The Customs people are especially wary of any items that have been in contact with the ground .. bikes, Wellingtons, gardening equipment as they can carry live bacteria. If they see them on the itinerary, there is a higher probability that they will check them and insist that the contents are fumigated. Make sure these items are scrubbed and disinfected.
