Shipping - any suggestions for questions to ask shippers when getting a quote?
Hi - my mum has been granted her parent visa and will be moving to Oz in September with what we expect to be half a container (or possibly a full container) of furniture/personal possessions. She has 3 shipping companys coming to give her quotes next week.
* Any suggestions on the types of questions she needs to be asking them when they visit?
* The companys are PSS, Arrowpak and AngloPacific - if anyone has any notable good or bad experiences with these companys we'd welcome your thoughts (feel free to do this by PM if you'd rather keep it private)
* Also, if anyone has a glowing recommendation for a different shipping company - we'd also be interested in hearing that too
Many thanks

I used PSS and they were great in the UK, not quite so good in Oz but my gear turned up ok and the guys were all good, only problem was a 10 day delay due to them being busy and no trucks, wasnt my problem so hire more trucks in my opinion, they had 2 months notice on their requirements.

Will you pack the shipment yourself, or would you like the shipping company to do it for you?
Would you like the shipping company to arrange the customs clearance and delivery at your destination, or would you prefer to do this yourself?
Items to be shipped – do your items include any 'special' packing requirements - we had a glass top table which was going to cost us 100 pounds to ship due to a special box being created to ship it in (it cost less to buy!)
Storage - ensure that any storage requirements are fully listed. We discovered that despite not causing any delays at customs or at delivery we still had to pay storage for a week while the goods cleared customs!
Detail what the pick up and drop off addresses have in terms of access / stairs etc. otherwise you could be charged extra at the end
hope this helps!

I used Allied Pickfords. Very good price ,very professional during quote process. It is Allied Pickfords in Uk AND here in Oz so no third party removal firm used this end (proves VERY sticky when making claims) AND they had their own proper marine insurance(no need to go with Letton Percival) so insured from beginning to 1 week after arrival.Watch out for the standard liability they all offer you it covers bugger all and definately not while your stuff is on the boat.
One cracked picture frame glass was all we had so highly recommended and i can say that both ends of the loading and unloading were well done AND done with care !!
Good luck Sunbound
