British Expats - shipping advice

Hi all, was just wondering if anyone who has already made the journey could help.

I've got a typical 3 bedroom house of contents to ship over (20ft con') and was wondering if anyone has tried the option of packing there belongings themselves just leaving the shipping company to fill the container and ship down under? If so was the hassle and extra work worth the savings? Where can I get packing "stuff" if this was an option?

Finally I've got (some still to quote) PSS, Crown, Pickfords and Britannia to quote prices has anyone had experience of others that they would highly recommend (I'm in the midlands) to also get to quote based on reliability, service, cost or hopefully all three!!

From what I understand, If you pack yourself, they won't insure the contents for breakages. Not sure how true this is for all shipping companies though.
