Mr Mover would be the expert on this one - maybe he'll answer you later, but I was told it can be anything from 6 weeks to 3 months. Quicker if you have a container to yourself, slower if you are sharing and have to wait for the container to fill.

best bet is 5-8 weeks depending on what the shipping company has planned , what people dont realise is that a lot of oz containers are trans /shipped in singa pore , [taken from 1boat and put on another}, say from a japan bound vessel on to a japan -oz vessel , this is when the long delays occur.............. Ours jumped on the boat on 23rd December and arrived in Perth on 18th January. We had a full container but if you share you have to wait to be "buddied" up with someone else and that can cause delays. Ask Loopy!!

PSS offered to reduce the quote by £100 if I would like to go via the suez Canal a slower route by 1-3 weeks.?? Thiswould actually suit us in the time frame is it a safe route and do they off-load anywhere on the way??

Ours took three months, although John Masons did say 10-12 weeks, so musn't whinge! We looked on line and tracked the ship which didn't stop in Freo, sailed on to Melbourne where our container had to wait to come back again. From talking to everyone here if you have your own container it's definetly quicker.

After talking to a couple at the weekend, the firm they were using went bankrupt during their transit time, they had to pay again to get their belongings back but luckily they paid via credit card and were reimbursed, others hadn't been so lucky. So, it may be worth paying with a credit card.

Not sure if this is any use but we went to a 'show' for people wishing to either buy property abroad or emigrate last October and every company we spoke to said eight weeks...having said that we weren't actually booking anything with them.
Really interesting to hear that some companies make the container change ship, hadn't heard that at all...might be important when booking????
