Shippers and extra baggage allowance
 

Can anyone recommend a good shipper. I have had quotes from PSS and Anglo Pacific. Not sure which to go for. Anyone used them before?

Another question I have - when booking flights, how do we claim the extra baggage allowance - will be booking on-line. Hope to be going out end of November.

Best bet with the bags, if its to heavy for you to lift one handed then its over weight, ours were a little over and we got charged a little bit extra, nothing much though

We've also had PSS and Anglo Pacific out but we've haven't received the quotes back yet and we've arranged for Robinson to come out in November. I have to say though I was more impressed with Anglo Pacific she was very professional and very helpful but the guy from PSS just kept saying "it's all in the leaflet" and didn't seem in the slightest interested and was more eager on getting directions to his next appointment :mad:

Also I believe from previous posts that you need to get in touch with the airline and request the extra allowance then make sure you get it in writing to show to the check in staff at the airport. Also this is only available if you send proof that you have your visa and book a one way ticket.

to a large extent I think the vibes you get off the individual who shows up at your house to quote makes the biggest difference in who you choose. one rep from say AP could give a whole different impression than another.

What makes more difference I think are those who pack for you and those in the office who do the paperwork - nonw of which you have any control over!

Thanks - we too found the guy from Anglo Pacific very professional. PSS just seemed to rush the quote and missed things off. Just want to get some feed back before I sign up.

i have just emailed thai airways about baggage allowance and when you receive your visa you get an email with links on to advise you about your baggage allowance as you will be living over htere etc... will post back what Thai Airways say.... as 20kg is not enough for me!

plus i have been recommended baggage excess. They have offices based in Heathrow and as we are not taking a house just personal items we will probably just rock up there and sort it out on the day.

Glad it wasn't just me with PSS then, they were in and out my house likea dose of salts and not at all impressed with the rep - more interested in telling me he is going back to OZ himself soon and where to go and what to do!! We are going with Doree Bonner - very proffesional rep, nothing too much trouble was with me for 90 mins measuring up and assessing, papework is very professional and he has been in touch with extra help and info ever since - also haggled and got the total cost and insurance % reduced.

With flights we booked with Singapore on line,sent them an email re xcess baggage, got one back saying can take 40Kg each as long as no one bag is more than 32kg (airline safety laws). We just have to show our email and visa when we dump bags as will check in on line - already reserved seats and we pre-order all our meals as well. Not only do they offer the xtra bag allownace but were cheapest by far for our trip.

Virtually the only airlines that give extra baggage now are Singapoer and Emirates. You will need an unused (ie not validated) permanenet residency visa.

Excess Baggage Co at Heathrow (and some other airports) are excellent - they will accept the excess and do the paperwork on the spot. I sent last minute stuff with them by air freight and it arrived the day after I did, so if you get stuck with too much at the last minute they are definitely the way to go.

hi be very careful with your extra baggage allowance even with singapore airlines , you must make sure that your ticket is stamped from the airline or agent stating 40kgs per person on a unvalidated visa.
we booked with a agent who told us with singapore airlines we had 40kgs per person ok leaving the uk to singapore.
but after the stop over in singapore even with a letter stating that we were allowed 40kgs per person because it was not on the ticket we had great difficulty getting through some friends arrived 2 weeks before us and they were forced to pay extra and the rate is around £33 per kilo beware and make sure your ticked is stamped do not take a agents word it could prove very expensive

We have an e-ticket for SA which says nothing about extra luggage allowance.

I emailed them and gave them our details and we got a pretty bog standard reply that providing the visa was 'unused' and we had a one way ticket then we are entitled to 40gs luggage allowance.

So I printed off the email and have kept it clipped to my eticket.

I dont think there is anything left for me to do unless anyone can enlighten me:confused:

we are flying with Thai Airways and apparently they dont offer this as an option and we are stuck with 20kg each!! I got that info off the comp we booked the tickets through, i have since been trying to get through to their customer service dept but never get through and have to end up holding for ages and i cant do that at work! :curse:
