Shipments into Brisbane
Was talkin to a mate, and a container driver, yes the containers that we import our stuff from the uk in, today.
They weresaying that there is such a HUGE backlog at brizzy wharf, that major delays should and will be encountered.
They were saying that its got to th point where they havent got enough storage for all of the containers arriving into the port.
How this will affect peoples shipments i dunno, but im sure someone better qualified than me can offer some guidance.
Steve

We haven't even packed up yet (3wks to go), and our movers have warned us that there may be problems and delays for our stuff @ Sydney because of the new system in use by customs.
Apparently customs are clearing containers, but thet system has also caused a backlog in the brokers taking the containers away also.

The only people really stuffed up by it, are the shipping companies who run a really tight turnround itinerary. It must be a nightmare for them.

Don't panic too soon. Our container arrived at Brisbane port on Friday and was unloaded today. It will only be between 3 and 7 days waiting for customs, then it's all ours.
Yes there are delays but things are getting sorted. It's Sydney with the biggest problem.

Re: Shipments into Brisbane
Please everyone be aware if a container is not removed within a certain number of days, about 7 in the UK the owner of the container gets charged rent for storage.
Obviously they won't want this so I am sure they will do their upmost to clear containers quickly

Re: Shipments into Brisbane
The problem is indeed caused by new customs software.
I know people in the industry working through the night in order to input the data required.
Most Aus ports are affected. Terminals and storage sheds are bursting at the seems and look out in the harbours. You'll probably see more ships than have ever been there before.
I have already had shipments delayed which means we will fail to meet planned delivery times to our customers.
How does one explain to people in China, Mauritius and Thailand that the reason they won't be able to go ahead with their planned production dates is due to our customs software ****ing up ?
It's a competitive market out there and this will not help the Aus economy.

Re: Shipments into Brisbane
My shared container arrived in Brisbane port on the 7th October. Due to part of our customs form not being filled in (our Oz address and tel no which we didn't have at the time) customs requested a whole new form which we had to post out right away - it arrived 2 days ago and Crown in Brisbane e-mailed to say that customs clearances were now taking a minimum of 10 days instead of the usual 2-3 days.
It hasn't particularly bothered us as we don't arrive in Brisbane until the 5th November and we won't be requiring our belongings until the beginning of December when we get a rental house - so I just hope this is the case.
My only concern is how our stuff will be stored while awating customs clearance? We were fully prepared to pay for Crowns climate controlled storage until we needed the stuff - it concerns me that boxes may be going mouldy sitting in the port in the heat and humidity - we'll just have to wait and see.
I was also angry at the time as I felt this delay was unnecessary - to me Crown in Livingstone (Scotland) should be checking the paperwork is filled out completely before sending it to Brisbane - at the time we never knew our temporary Australian address and couldn't fill that part in - we weren't made aware that this would become a problem - customs will only accept original customs forms and cannot add details to them - this can obviously cause delays in posting new papaerwork. Other than this hiccup Crown have been great - i'll let you know what condition by belongings are in when I finally get them!
