Yes you can - the Dept for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry website tells you that you can take in 'skins hides and furs' provided you declare them.

(Some items might also need treatment before they are allowed in).

But does anyone know if you can take them back into the UK from Oz?

We are moving back with our cat who sleeps on one - her comfort blanket.

Please no comments about flat cats, dead cats, skinning cats, etc.

Cheers

The wife here (of sjn2003), I really want a rug now, can't wait till sept 04 - Sydney arrival. £185 for mongolian wringlets 5' x 3' rug, should i wait and is it a good idea to have a rug in Sydney - will it attract local species or am I being stupid?

ok ok. don't need any better reason than saving a few pounds. Cheers.
What about the insects though. I don't picture many rugs on floors in hot countries

i wouldnt worry about insects on the rug. I havent been here very long, but havent had much of a problem with them and i am told you can have your house fumigated once a year for a little over $100 and nothig comes in after that.
