Sharing Accommodation
Hi all,
I would like to know what is the legal procedures that takes place after I have viewed an appartment or house for share and wanted to move in. Also, to whom do we have to pay the bond and the rent? is it a real estate agency or directly to the landlord? Thanks, Tamer Salem |

Hi Tamer
I am not sure which state you are heading and what kind of rental you are looking at? If you are applying for a rental through a real estate agency then you would pay the bond to them who would then (in Victoria) file it with the RTBA (Residential Tenancies Bond Authority) http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/CA256...Authority~&3=~ If you are looking at house share, a lot of these are done on a private agreement with the landlord so in this case, although they are also suppose to lodge with the RTBA some landlords have been known to keep this money in a separate account. It is definitely worth asking whom will have your bond. A great guide to renting property in Victoria can be found here: http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/CA256902000FE154/Lookup/CAV_Publications_Renting/$file/RentingComplete.pdf Good luck Kate |
